The Level-Up Awardees have been doing so wonderfully in their academics and in their athletics. We are looking forward to showcasing them this month. Keep visiting!
This is our first year of the Level-Up Awards and we are just getting warmed up, so we’re allowing an extension for everyone to submit their applications and recommendations. There were a few applicants who were having issues with the process and only were able to get in some portion of their application. We have been able to address those problems.
The portal (https://forms.gle/krbK8zH77V98RcoJ6) is open and will close midnight Pacific FEB 11th (3:00 a.m. FEB 12th Eastern).
We will be posting this opportunity in several places, but please do share in your networks.
Applicants should be able to save progress, but if you find that you need a copy of the questions, please view this PDF. Then go to the link above or at https://forms.gle/pvLvc7nsjDHqYwGVA when you are ready to complete the application. Please follow the guidelines. 🙂
If you have questions, do send us (Jim Chaplin or Sue Ebanks) an email at TheOC3Foundation@gmail.com.
Best to you! Sue Ebanks on behalf of The OC3 Foundation Crew

Development of the application process for academic and athletic awards…
Yes!!! Yes!!! Yes!!!
Get ready and be on the lookout for the award opportunity that will be announced this coming week so that you can apply (if applicable) and share with others!
If you ever saw Diamond at a competition, you didn’t have to look too far to see Big O (a.k.a. Dad).
Whether Dad had major things that he needed to do at work or if the family finances were tight, he was always there. Whether it was foreign or domestic, he was always there. He was there, number one for Diamond, but for others, too…and then for Diamond’s athletes in the later years. That kind of support is priceless. One must also recognize that for Big O to be able to do that, Mom had to provide full support back at headquarters!
As we think about the athletes that are soaring to the highest heights or are on the pathway to soar to the highest heights, we want to support those athletes in any way that works to bless them in a special way. Often that means supporting the family to have a representative with that athlete.
This month, through 31 OCT 2022, we want to hear what you would like to see in an athletic award and athletic support. We are in the brainstorming phase and anticipate announcing the opening of both The Mind (See last month’s call out for education support ideas…still time to respond!) and The Body support awards by the end of November.
So let’s talk The Body this month, specifically ways that The Foundation can support the advancement of our athletes! Chime in! Our ears are open!
You can respond in the comment box on the website, on the Facebook page, or of course you can reach out to us at:
A new school year has begun for most and will soon begin for everyone else. So, we are planning to push for a first scholarship offering this coming year and want to know where the needs are.
If you have ideas for scholarships that will meet specific needs that our students and student-athletes have, post a comment and/or email us…keep the ideas coming!
We plan to announce the opening of the request for applications before Thanksgiving, so we want to get information on the needs for an Education Scholarship by 30 SEP 2022. A request for ideas for an Athletics Award will be coming in October.🙂
Let’s be creative! Thinking outside the box (and even throwing away the box) is in the spirit of this Foundation.
Most times the phrase diamond in the rough refers to an unpolished beginning stage of something or someone. When I think diamond in the rough, I think an immovable force, a strong-willed gladiator, a coach, a friend, a brother, a cornerstone, a CHAPLIN! This one picture sums up and unspeakable Bond. I’m so proud to continue carrying on his memory and legacy through The OC3 Foundation with my family. Stay tuned and keep looking out for all the amazing works that will be coming soon. Also, a huge thank you to Ashley McGahee for making this picture and so much more possible. We are so happy and proud to be surrounded by so many amazing people that are willing and desire to help the mission! To God be the Glory!
Our logo illustrates the mission to collaboratively help individuals maximize their individual potential through mental, spiritual, and physical growth.
2 Timothy 1:7 in the New International Version reminds us…
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.
Because The Bible was originally written in Greek and Hebrew, sometimes it is helpful to read various translations to gain clarity in understanding. For example, this scripture in the King James Version version reads…
For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Join us on this journey to discover, develop, and launch new ways to support the spiritual, mental, and physical health and well-being of budding athletes and other learners!
More soon…
In the meantime, consider making a post, donation, or notification of your interest. You can donate via the link on any of the pages of our website. Also, you can make comments and posts via our FB page or other social media, comment/contact board on our website, or via our email address below.
The fourth tenet in the mission of The Oscar Chaplin, III Foundation for Education & Athletics is action. We strive to be launched like arrows to do the work of God. Will you join us in being agents of action?
As an arrow, this element symbolizes the plan of this Foundation to do the work of helping people to make the necessary connections to “look good and feel good”on their success journey and we aim to take authentic action in all that we do.
As described in the eulogy by his father, Mr. Oscar Chaplin, Jr., Diamond felt that he had reached a point for which he needed to transition from being Diamond to being Oscar so that he could be launched out as a tool to do God’s work. It is that core value that will persist as his legacy through this Foundation.
For all the days of this organization, Christ-like action will be at the core.
I John 3:16-24 tells us…
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.
For The Oscar Chaplin, III Foundation for Education & Athletics, we want to illustrate and encourage an understanding of how amazing the body can be as a tool and even as a vessel to do great things.
The namesake and the founding directors of this Foundation have been recorded in the annals for achievements and leadership in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. Thus, there is likely no reason for surprise that the Olympic Weightlifting bar is the selected symbol for The Body, health, and athletics.
Since age 9,Diamond was involved in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting…for himself and later for the benefit if others. His unprecedented achievements as an athlete and as a coach will live on in the hearts of many.
For all the days of this organization, we will support physical and athletic goals toward a stronger and healthier society.
Romans 12:1 tells us we are to take care if our bodies and allow them to be used in God’s service…
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
Also, I Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us…
Do you know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.
